ABOUT

PASSAGE_Poster_Full_Resolution.png

The emotional relevance our audiences can draw out from our film lies within the story of our two protagonists, the two brothers. The two brothers look out for one another and will do anything to protect the other. They are both poor, living without parents and aim to cross the bridge to get to a 'better place in life'. In the very systematic world of the story, people have to pay a toll to be able to cross the bridge to be able to get to the better side. The payment allows for a light to guide the way across the bridge. If not enough money has been put into the machine, the light doesn't shine the whole way for the characters and a monster attacks. We notice the selfless approach on the story when the older brother uses his coin to help the old man who didn't have enough money, this created a problem for the brothers as now they don’t have enough money to cross. The older brother later sacrifices his life so that his younger brother can get himself to safety on the other side of the bridge, for him to have a better life. The older brothers act is where the emotional relevance lies, and the question is asked, “what would you sacrifice to get your loved one to a better place in life.”

Our conceptual relevance is depicted throughout our film. The journey across the bridge is a metaphoric representation of ambition. Everyone waits in line to cross the bridge to get either themselves or their loved ones to a better place in life which is at the other side of the bridge. Our characters are of different economic groups as well as age groups and each have their own reasons to cross the bridge. Scenes where the characters are crossing the bridge highlights our main theme in our film, which is the core question of ‘what are people willing to sacrifice to get their loved ones to a better place in life.’ The waiting in line and crossing the bridge also represents the journey of life, and the light represents a symbol of hope for the characters as they cross the bridge, while the darkness represents the unknown which is a symbol of fear.
